NEW RELEASE!

ANTONIO VILLEROY CHOOSES PORTUGAL

TO LAUNCH NEW ALBUM AND START NEW WORLD TOUR

Banquete is the brand new album by Antonio Villeroy, acclaimed Brazilian singer-songwriter who’s been living in Portugal since October 2022. Villeroy chose Portugal as the starting point of his world tour supporting the album.

According to the singer-songwriter, the new album is inspired by Greek philosopher Plato’s “Symposium” (also known as “The Banquet”). “ completes a trilogy of albums about love: the first was Gravidade do Amor, recorded live in 2016, and then came Luz Acesa, recorded live in 2020. In this new album, I put together songs about love, in its most different forms, such as friendship, passion, love for art, for science, or for a city”, says Villeroy.

Banquete will be released in May, followed by a series of live dates in Brazil, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, Czech Republic and the Netherlands — and, in 2024, in Argentina and Uruguay.

The next ten months will be dedicated to touring and promoting the album, but Antonio Villeroy won’t stop writing new music. He will soon debut songwriting partnerships with Brazilian masters Toninho Horta and Marcos Valle. Another brand new album, to be recorded next year, is also in sight.

ABOUT BANQUETE

In Banquete, his 14th album, Villeroy presents 13 songs, most of them sung in duo with artists from various nationalities: Brazilians Francis Hime, Gelson Oliveira and Colombo Cruz, Portuguese Joana Amendoeira, Italians Mafalda Minnozzi and Chiara Civello, French Marie Minet, Spaniard Pedro Guerra, and Venezuelan Georgina. Among the themes featured in the album are:

Jazz ballad “A Tal Fotografia”, written after an interactive post in social media — Villleroy asked followers and friends to send photos taken with him, most of them after concerts.

“As Coisas do Mundo”, a bossa nova song inspired by an interview with French philosopher Gilles Deleuze. Featuring Portuguese singer Joana Amendoeira.

“Del Amor” is a morna written with Pedro Guerra, a Spanish artist born in the Canary Islands. He also performs on the track, in duo with Villeroy.

“Choro Chorado”, a chorinho in which Villeroy’s lyrics deal with love stories lived in Rio’s carnival. The song was masterfully composed by Francis Hime, who also shares vocals credits on this recording.

“Por Amsterdam” is a waltz inspired by the Dutch city, with its architecture, cycle paths, canals, and museums full of works of art from different historical periods.

“Between Now And Goodbye”, a jazz ballad written with Italian artist Chiara Civello, who also features on the track, singing with Villeroy.

“Canção da Magnólia” is a manouche jazz with hints of bolero,  inspired by Italian theoretical physicist Carlo Rovelli’s works on Quantum Gravity Theory.

“Consultório Sentimental”, a samba that deals with love issues, performed as a dialogue between Antonio Villeroy and Colombo Cruz.

“Serena Serenata” is a poignant song, its melody composed in partnership with American hitmaker Jeff Franzel, and lyrics written by Antonio Villeroy (Portuguese) and Mafalda Minozzi (Italian), who also sings on the track, in duo with Villleroy.

“Certain Jour”, a ballad with French lyrics sung in duo with Marie Minet, French singer-songwriter who lives in Lisbon.

“Quien como Yo” is a reggaeton with bossa nova harmonies, featuring Venezuelan singer Georgina. It was written collaboratively with Colombian producers Mango and Nabalez.

“Mañana” was written by Villeroy with Ana Carolina, Aleh and the late singer-songwriter Bebeto Alves. It mixes Latin and Brazilian genres and features piano and percussion recorded by musicians from David Byrne's band. Other special guests are Paula Finn on castanets, and Bebeto Alves, who shares vocals with Villeroy.

The “samba exaltação” (a classic samba subgenre) “Mais Uma Vez”, with lyrics about love’s enchantments and disappointments, was written with Jerônimo Jardim and Gelson Oliveira. Gelson Oliveira also shares vocals with Villeroy.

Banquete enlisted 62 musicians, residing in various cities around the world. Throughout the tracks, they play drums, percussion, bass, piano and keyboards, violas, guitars, violins, cellos, vocals, and guitars, as well as flute, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, clarinet, and clarone.

Banquete’s songs were recorded in several cities in Brazil, and also in New York, Málaga, Rome, and Lisbon. The album is an independent production by Antonio Villeroy-owned label PIC Music, with digital distribution by Nikita Music Digital.
